Uplifting Student Voice Through Equity In Action
with Derek Francis, Michelle Sircy and Marsha Rutledge
School counselors have a pivotal role in ensuring that all students feel welcomed and seen given their unique identities. As our country becomes more integrated and diverse, school counselors should help all students feel affirmed in their identities while also teaching skills to help students build connections with those similar and different from them. In order to create a school environment that is truly inclusive for all students, educators need awareness of systemic and interpersonal barriers that impact students from BIPOC and other historically marginalized backgrounds. This session will focus on utilizing the ASCA Model through an equity lens.
Join us on Monday, September 16, 2024 as we work together to:
-
Examine your own social identities and the impact on building relationships across the diverse identities of students, staff and families.
-
Review the ASCA model and unpack strategies for implementing tenants of ASCA Equity in Action
-
Develop skills to lead equity focused small group and classroom lessons
-
Provide strategies to hear, respond and uplift student voice, particularly those who have been historically marginalized.
-
Practice an inquiry based approach to disaggregate and review data and to apply culturally responsive interventions
